For centuries, artists have been intrigued, fascinated, obsessed with the human figure... and represent it in countless variety. This is not everybodys cup of tea, but for those who are captivated by this form of expression, it can be one of the most satisfying moments to be found. There is great beauty to be revealed, and a great sense of acomplishment and freedom to allow yourself to participate in such a creation. So do it!!!! I have been a figure model for more than 25 years, and the effort to become "nude in nature" is very difficult...trying to relate your body to a part of nature. And in those 25 years, this is certainly the best composition of the two that I have ever achieved.
In this particular case, it is a self portrait...particularly called "Celebration". It is a cactus right outside the back door of my gallery, and was truly a moment of celebration of my first sale through the gallery. However, this photo started before that day...the minute I saw that cactus, I knew I had to create this photo. To some of us, it becomes a mandate that simply can not be put aside. Sadly, since my photographic moment, the cactus has lost some of its natural beauty, through sun and weather. But it is a moment in time I will never forget.
I truly wish this print would show better on my site...it is a truly fine print, without all the blocky graininess that you see here.
